Hi everyone! Well, as usual I’m behind on everything, but I thought I’d log on to….
…did you hear a rustle in the grass?
A white rabbit! He seems to be in an awful hurry, too. Let’s see where he’s going…
Well, goodness gracious. This must be Wonderland. And what’s this? A stylish party in the sunshine? And plenty of teacups to go around? And you’re all invited? Excellent! (I knew it all along)
May I introduce the honorable tea pots? They’re an essential part of the proceedings at a tea party, you know.
Miss Spink and Miss Forcible, how do you do?
Perhaps you’d like to stop and paint the roses? I see that they aren’t quite finished…
Would you like some nibbles?
These may look like fancy tarts, but they’re actually PB&(s)J–peanut butter & strawberry jam sandwiches!
As you can see, in Wonderland we like to play with our food. Chess is much harder when people keep eating parts of the board!
Perhaps a cupcake? No? Ah, I know what you really want…
- You want a slice of cake! But Wonderland is no ordinary place, you know, and this is no ordinary cake…
It’s a chessboard cake! Only appropriate on this side of the looking glass, you know.
Thank you for coming to my tea party! There will be some behind-the-scenes details and tutorials coming soon! In the meantime you can find more tea parties to attend by checking out the blogroll at A Fanciful Twist.
Special thanks to my Papa and my sister Melody, who helped fight the odds to make these pictures happen! Papa made me a custom tray for my chessboard and put the legs back on my table, and Melody helped carry everything and stepped in for the role of Young Lady in White Dress. <3!
WOW: this is brilliant!
I’m thoroughly impressed by both the amount of effort you must have put into this, as well as — of course! — by the lovely result. Love the pb&j ‘tarts’ and the chessboard cake particularly, and looking forward to the behind-the-scenes post coming up.
Thanks for visiting! I’m so glad that you enjoyed it :D The behind-the-scenes and tutorials will be coming soon–I hope you’ll enjoy them just as much!
Thanks very much <3

Hop over to mine so I can return the favor…the tea is waiting!
http://poetryinapotoftea.blogspot.com/2011/06/mad-tea-party.html
Thank you! (I’ll be doing a tutorial for the card banner soon–although if you’ve done a sewn banner you can probably guess how it’s made already!)
What a lovely tea party and the peanut butter and jelly sandwiches were a very clever idea,
I painted a rose for your while I was here.
Here is a link to my tea party if you would like to visit.

Thank you so much! I’m glad you enjoyed it :)
You’re my very first stop on the Mad Tea Party Train :)
I love the checkered cake, that must have taken a few minutes to put together?! Your party looks lovely, and I might steal your playing-card decor sometime in the future :)
Katarina
Thank you very much! I’m glad you could visit :)
The checkered cake did take a few minutes–and it made a big mess! But the dramatic effect is totally worth it, I think (as long as I only do it every once in a while, for very very special events like this one!). Hopefully I’ll put together a tutorial for both the cake and the playing card streamers soon!
wowzer what a cake!!! what a lovely party, so glad i chose your blog out of all of the ‘a’ blogs…(too many for me to look through so i have decided to go to one of each of the letter of the alphabet)
love all of the decorations too.
thanks for the tea.
xxrosey
Thank you so much! I’m very glad that you chose me :D
Those cakes and sarnies look lovely!! Looks like you had a good time! Come over to mine later today for my party!
Thank you for visiting! :)
Beautiful outdoor party! It looks so fun with the sun shining and all the bright colors! What delicious desserts too…and the chessboard! Yum! Can I (eat), I mean play it?
Hugs,
Terri
Thank you so much! I’m glad you enjoyed it :) I think it would be awesome if someone made up a new version of chess, with rules that involve eating the pieces you claim and then working around the empty bits of board…
Thanks for visiting!
Oh wow! this is wonderful…wonderfully MAD! I love the heart tartes, the checker board cake and most of all the sunshine! My party, unfortunately, was hijacked by rain all week so it was moved inside and scaled down, lol.
Please feel free to visit my party, humble may it be, if you get a chance.
http://pixiepages.blogspot.com/2011/06/mad-tea-tasting-extravaganza.html
Thank you so much! I have to tell you, though, that I completely sympathise with your weather woes–it LOOKS beautiful in the pictures, but ssshh it’s an illusion! It was actually brutally hot and very, very windy, and lanterns kept blowing away and the card streamer kept flipping to the wrong side of the fence, and as soon as we took the food out to take pictures an army of insects arrived and were EVERYWHERE!
I only had about fifteen minutes before we gave up and moved everything back inside! But at least we tried, and we have the pictures to remember it by ;)
wow! you are so very creative! i love all your ideas, what a beautiful mad tea party!
Thank you! I’m so glad you enjoyed it <3
What a beautiful Tea Party!
Very fun!
Hugs
Thank you! I’m glad you could visit <3
Hello! Such a great set-up! Love the deck of cards garland, and the yummy treats and clever checkerboards! How sweet of you to acknowledge the special help you got from your family. Makes me think of times when my own family helped me get through a special event.
Thank you so much! I’m very glad you enjoyed it <3 I couldn't do half the things I attempt without help from my family–they're the best! I mentioned in passing that I wished we had a larger square tray, so that I could make a full chessboard, and my dad disappeared into the garage and returned a few hours later with a beautiful, elegant tray just for me! And my sister did a huge amount of grunt work AND posed for pictures–thankfully my family accepts payment in cake!
So sorry I am late
For this important date.
You’re the fourth on the list
With too little time
I’m leaving this rhyme
For I’m adamant about wanting to persist.
All this running about
Has left me dry in the mouth.
Might I have a cup of tea
And your checker board cake
and P B & Js
Are so tempting to me
Oh my, the time
It goes so fast
I must be on my way
But fear not friend
I shall return
Please……Have a beautiful day.
Thank you! I’m glad that you could visit, and absolutely delighted by your wonderful rhyme <3
What a devine party! I loved all the nibbles! The chess cake was my favorite! Have a magical day! Twyla
Thank you for visiting! I’m so glad you enjoyed it :)
I love your tea party!! I love the toppers you had on the cupcakes. I may be copying that in some form in the future – if you don’t mind? Love your checkerboard cake, too!!!
Janet
Thank you so much! I’m so glad you could visit :) I’d love to see your version of the cupcake flags! (and I’ll tell you that I used ordinary white glue, which was a little tedious because I had to hold each flag for a few moments until the glue became tacky enough for the paper not to unfold–it occured to me later that double stick tape might have worked better and been easier to use! If you try it you must let me know what works best!)
I do hope your card garland is a tutorial. Brilliant!
Everything was scruptious. Thank you for inviting us.
It will be! The tutorials will start going up later this week, so I hope you’ll visit again and tell me what you think of them!
Thank you so much :)
